We study microbes, their impact on disease development, and host responses to infection. Our research topics include:
Several hundreds of microbial species inhabit our oral cavity. A balance among these microorganisms is crucial for a healthy oral environment. Using a multi-species biofilm model, we investigate interactions among microorganisms as well as between host environments and microbes. Furthermore, we explore the role of oral microbes in the pathogenesis and progression of Medication-Related Osteonecrosis of the Jaw (MRONJ), a condition associated with the use of bone antiresorptive agents.
Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) is a well-known pathogen causing gastric diseases, including gastric cancer. We investigate how H. pylori adheres to the gastric mucosa and interacts with gastric epithelial cells, with a broader goal of suppressing H. pylori-induced gastric diseases. By employing human gastric organoids and transgenic mice, we seek a deeper understanding of the pathogenesis of H. pylori-induced gastric diseases.
